The need
The J Street team watches and reviews hundreds of movies, and wanted to track those reviews, make scores publicly accessible, and showcase our web application development expertise.
The solution
J Street re-designed our existing Access movie-review application as an ASP.NET and SQL Server web app, adding features powered by the IMDB API and Microsoft AI, including machine-learning affinity scores between reviewers. It runs in any modern browser, including smartphones.
How it turned out
The public Reviews home page, where anyone can browse and sort individual movie scores from the J Street team.
The Titles page lists every movie the team has reviewed, sortable by any column and searchable by title or release year.
Clicking into a title shows details and prior reviews, with movie data pulled in automatically through the IMDB API.
Using machine learning, the system calculates affinity scores between reviewers based on their star ratings.
Logged-in users get more features, including the Reviews page showing the most recent reviews and one-click adding of a new review.
